Why does my back pain keep returning during daily activities?

Recurring back pain can reflect more than one contributing factor, including spinal loading, movement habits, or nearby soft tissue strain. Spinal decompression therapy starts with a health history and exam so our team can review your symptoms before discussing care. Seek urgent medical attention for severe weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, or sudden numbness in the groin area.

Spinal Decompression Therapy in Jonesboro: What the visit covers

Spinal decompression therapy gives patients a focused option when back pain, neck pain, sciatica, or disc-related symptoms affect daily life. The visit centers on fit, comfort, and safe positioning, not on choosing a device without an exam.

Our team begins with a new patient intake, health history, and physical assessment. Digital or 3D X-rays may support the evaluation when clinically indicated. The goal is to decide whether traction belongs in your care plan and what other services, such as rehabilitation or corrective exercises, may support it.

This page is for patients who want to understand the treatment experience before booking. Results vary, and this service isn't the right choice for every condition. We review the findings with you before treatment planning.

  • Review symptoms, health history, and daily activity limits before treatment.
  • Discuss whether spinal decompression fits the patient's goals and findings.
  • Check positioning, harness placement, and cushion support during the session.
  • Coordinate decompression with rehabilitation, adjustments, massage, or corrective exercises when appropriate.

Service Overview

Spinal decompression therapy is a guided treatment that uses controlled traction to reduce loading through targeted areas of the spine.

  • It differs from spinal adjustments because traction focuses on gentle positioning and pull, while an adjustment uses a specific manual or instrument-assisted movement.
  • Our team provides this care for patients in Jonesboro as part of individualized chiropractic treatment plans.

What to weigh before choosing spinal decompression

Comfort is checked during setup

Session comfort depends on positioning, harness fit, and cushion support. We explain the setup and make adjustments when needed, so you can share concerns before treatment continues.

The exam guides treatment fit

Spinal decompression follows a health history and exam. Digital or 3D X-rays may support the evaluation when clinically indicated, and our licensed chiropractic professionals use the findings to shape care.

Other care may matter too

Decompression may work alongside rehabilitation, massage therapy, adjustments, or corrective exercises. The service is the wrong choice when the evaluation shows that another form of medical care is more appropriate.

Process

How we provide spinal decompression care

1

Review symptoms and goals

The new patient intake covers your health history, symptoms, activity limits, and goals for care.

2

Complete the chiropractic evaluation

We examine movement and relevant findings. Digital or 3D X-rays may support the evaluation when clinically indicated.

3

Set the harness and cushions

The treatment harness and support cushions position your body on the spinal decompression table. We explain what you should feel and invite questions.

4

Apply gentle traction

The table applies controlled traction as planned for your treatment. Our team checks your comfort during the session.

5

Discuss the care plan

The report of findings connects the evaluation to your options, which may include decompression, rehabilitation, adjustments, massage therapy, or corrective exercises.

How traction differs from related chiropractic care

These approaches use different methods, so the evaluation helps determine which one fits your goals.

I really appreciate the fact that they have later hours of operation. Their hours accomodate my visits very nicely. Additionally, when I get there the lovely ladies at the front desk are always, professional, welcoming and pleasant to deal with. The doctor also has a great bedside manner and they are ALL easy on the eyes, so if there is a bright spot in the rotten car accident that I had it is the fact that I get to interact with the lovely ladies of Arrowhead Clinic Cascade.

Dr. Weldon is phenomenal! The staff is courteous and professional. Due to wear and tear from playing sports, I’ve been getting physical therapy and Chiropractic care from different doctors for over 25 years and I don’t know anyone better to work with than Dr. Weldon. He’s extremely knowledgeable, personable, affordable, thorough, and attentive. Most importantly, he’s very aware about what I need done each visit so I can feel my best. He’s highly recommended!

Questions patients ask about spinal decompression care

What should I expect during spinal decompression therapy?

Session comfort comes first during spinal decompression therapy, and Arrowhead Clinic Chiropractor Atlanta explains each step before treatment begins. The visit includes positioning with a treatment harness and support cushions, followed by gentle traction on a spinal decompression table. Our team checks your comfort during the session and discusses the findings and next steps afterward.

What does the team look at first during treatment?

The health history and exam come first during treatment planning. We review symptoms, movement, prior injuries, daily activities, and your goals before discussing traction. Digital or 3D X-rays may support the evaluation when clinically indicated. These findings help us decide whether decompression fits your care plan or whether another service should come first.

What should be checked before treatment is scheduled?

A chiropractic evaluation should be checked before treatment is scheduled. Our team reviews your health history, symptoms, movement, and relevant imaging when clinically indicated. Tell us about recent injuries, numbness, weakness, or changes in bladder or bowel control. Severe warning signs need urgent medical attention and may require care outside chiropractic treatment.

Which part of the visit changes the treatment plan?

The evaluation changes the treatment plan because symptoms and physical findings differ between patients. Our team uses the intake, exam, and any clinically indicated imaging to decide whether traction fits. The plan may also include rehabilitation, adjustments, massage therapy, or corrective exercises when those services match your goals.

How does the treatment harness support comfort?

The treatment harness helps position your body for controlled traction on the spinal decompression table. Support cushions add contact points that help maintain the planned position. Our team explains the setup before treatment and checks how it feels during the session. Tell us promptly if pressure or positioning feels uncomfortable.

When might another treatment be a better fit?

Another treatment may be a better fit when the evaluation points to a need outside traction. Our team may discuss adjustments, rehabilitation, massage therapy, corrective exercises, or medical referral based on the findings. Decompression isn't a guaranteed answer for every cause of pain, and individual response differs.
